The rear differential in my '73 Spitfire has always dripped a little bit
when parked in the garage, usually not more than a drop or two after it
was
driven. Lately, I have noticed it's gotten a bit worse.
I haven't had a chance to climb under and make sure that there is no
play on
either of the axles or the pinion shaft, but I haven't noticed any
noises at
all from back there. Can the seals be replaced without having to pull
the
differential apart to the point that the gear lash needs to be reset?

Yes, I believe most of the seals can be replaced without R&R of the
diff. But before you fret too much, check to see that the vent (nothing
more than a hole with a little split pin that is loose enough to wiggle
about and hopefully keep the vent clear) hasn't gotten caked up with
road grime and grease. It doesn't take too much unvented pressure to
start pushing the gear oil out through various seals!

*Mrs Irrelevant: Oh, is it a jet?
*Man: Well, no ... It's not so much of a jet, it's more your, er,
Triumph Herald engine with wings.
