Yes, you could do it.  Though there are far better alternatives.  You could 
bolt the annulus down, permanently engaging the overdrive ratio.  By gutting 
the sprag clutch assembly engagement of reverse would be possible as well.  
Though simply using an alternative differential ratio would be a far more 
effective, easier and cheaper way to achieve the same end.

The physical dimensions and weight of the overdrive unit thus modified would be 
the same.
