BTW, there are some electrical contacts in the back end of the solenoid that
switch out
the high-current coil as soon as the solenoid plunger has been pulled all the
way back.
These can get dirty or pitted, and if they get flaky, the coil may appear bad.
If you
suspect a bad coil, make sure you try to fix these contacts before giving up on
the coil.
