Welcome, Marc and Decibel!
I have a 1980 Spit, very similar to your '79, so "been there, done that!"
My understanding that by the late 70's, everything was unleaded, unless your
engine is not original.
There is a bulb for the Tach, inserted into the rear of the upper rear of
the Tach. You have to reach behind the dash and upward to get to the bulb
holder.
The switch inside the reading light may have gone bad. It's supposed to
close the connection when the reading light is extended. A line may be
broken inside the switch.
I re-did my upholstery with the beige hound's-tooth kit (with foam inserts)
from Victoria British. Taking my time, it took a couple of weeks (working
evenings) to get them pulled on. With the proper hog nose pliers and some
3m spray adhesive, I think that they look pretty good. I can send some "in
progress" photos off line if you want.

Hello listers
I can now effectively join the "club", being the proud owner of
"Decibel", a 1979 FH Spit.
I think I am very lucky, because Decibel is very sound (no pun...).
First of all, I was told it/she had been converted to unleaded, but
no invoice to prove it. Is there a tell tale sign to verify (apart
from filling her up with unleaded until something eventually happens).
Second, the Rev counter isn't lit at night. Is that normal, or is
there a bulb I might want to look at.
Third, the reading light on the passenger's side doesn't work. The
bulb is good, and no fuse is AWOL... Any suggestions?
And finally (for now) the seat's upholstery is in a very sad state,
but the seats seem quite good. The trim is beige with houndstooth
cloth, and I am going to get a new one from Rimmer's. Any experience
with the fitting among you? And should I go for the cloth or settle
for the plain vinyl (leather is a little too dear...)?
Thanks in advance
Marc and Decibel
