I did once, with the soft top up.  It got quite wet inside. 
Not a good idea.

For such a small car, washing a Spit is a real pain.
It is very easy to get water in the wrong places, or
break off some bit of trim.

Waxing it well is even worse.  I manage to do it maybe twice a year.
