David - I haven't had any turn signal problems with my Spitfires (75 & 77)
but the two problem areas in most cars I've dealth with are:
(1) bulbs - if a bulb is out, it does something evil to the resistance or
something and the blinking goes haywire or simply doesn't blink. Check all
bulbs; and
(2) flasher unit - from what I understand, when the circuit is completed and
the bulb lights, the unit heats up. When it reaches a certain temperature,
it opens the circuit, causing the bulb to go out. With no electricity going
thru the circuit, the flasher unit cools and the circuit can be completed
again, causing the bulb to burn...then go out...then burn... etc, etc, etc.
Your flasher unit is probably tired.
Of course, it could be sunspots or gremlins...remember, I'm no mechanic.
But replacing bulbs & flasher units sure beats ripping apart your wiring, so
I'd definitely look there first.
