Barry,

My Midget uses a 165R13 non profile Michelin radial (X-Metric). I've been
very happy with them. THey grip well, and they stop well wet or dry. THey
are noisy, though, and often squeal even on slow turns. I don't know about
mileage as they have about 4K miles on them. A buddy's General brand tires,
though, wore down very quickly, and had to change them after about 6K.
They cost less than half of the Michelins, though. The Michelins on my
parent's Maxima have performed nicely. But they only lasted about as long
as the Dunlops before we had to change them. I forget which tire model is
on the Maxima.

My 300ZX has Dunlop A4's. A MUCH MUCH MUCH nicer tire. They grip like
glue, and are as quiet as can be. They hold corners no problem, and have
stopped me in a few panic stops very quickly. BUT, they wear down quickly,
and are expensive to boot. I get about 35-40K miles of hard driving on
them, and replace them at about $130 apiece.

Once upon a time, I was happy with my Cooper tires, but they weren't on a
sports car (it was an '84 Fleetwood Brougham)

Hope this helps.

Mike

Since I've just finished changing the flattened tire on the rear of the GT6
from some careless worker that had drywall screws flying all over the place
I have decided that it is time I replace the tires on this car. The ones
on there now (165 Pirelli P4) are very old (10 years) and cracked. Too bad
since the tread is almost new! These will also have tubes since I have
Dunlop wire wheels and they aren't made for tubeless tires.
However, I have never liked the feel of these tires on the road. They are
very mushy, and tend to wander, especially when cornering. I am going to
replace them with either 165/70's preferred or 165/65's second option if I
cant find the 70 series. I can get Dunlops in the 70 series for about $40,
but I had a set way back in the late 70's that wore out very VERY quickly
(obviously not a problem on this car :-}) and kinda soured me on this
brand. Michelins run about $66 for the same size -
Anybody used Dunlops lately and what sis you think?
