Hi Tony,
The buttons really get squished over time, and are barely recognized as such
when you disassemble the spring. Your list to one side could be due to one
of the leaves being cracked. I've had that happen and you could not see the
crack until the spring was removed. Make sure if you disassemble the spring
that the bolts and brackets are reassemble in the correct direction. Check
your manual, as many PO's put them back incorrectly. New buttons are
available from many sources. It is also possible to remove the spring
without taking the swing axles or differential off the car.
