Reply, Jeff when I did my seat tracks ('79 Spit) it was impossible to
seperate the parts of the track there are two ball bearings that roll back
and forth and are stopped by indentations in the tracks, this keeps the
tracks from sliding apart. I sandblasted mine best I could and painted them
with rustoleum. I would not recommend graphite as a lubricant, I jsut think
it is heavy enough, I will try and fid a thick grease for mine. (like the
type that used to come in a stick, 1" by 4" long, at every shell station in
North America.

Greetings all. I'm in the process of cleaning (bead blasting and wire
brushing) my seat rails in an attempt to remove a fair amount of rust. The
tracks still slide fairly well, but I can't figure out how to disassemble
them so I can really clean the inside of the rails where they actually make
contact together. I see some sort of a spring or something inside when I
peer in there. If anyone can advise me on how to disassemble the seat
rails, I'd appreciate it. If not, I'll just clean 'em as best I can, paint
them with a metallic finish and lube 'em with graphite as best I can.
