Hi Jeff
If you foresee an engine rebuild in the future I would avoid drilling the
hole in the sump any bigger as it is relatively easy to get the oil seal
housing and put it all back to standard. In my opinion the bolt on either
side will take the strain, though if you have tap and drill go for it, don't
drill it any deeper and I would advise only going up one size. If my memory
serves me the current size is 5/16" UNF so go to 3/8"UNF, the only thing to
remember is to keep the tap perpendicular to the surface of the oil seal
housing (the bit you will be tapping), also it is ally so be careful or you
may strip the new thread with the tap!
I would sugest a helicoil, these are brilliant but I know people with these,
they will not lend the kit out, it is very expensive gear and they usually
charge an arm and leg to do it for you! £10 per hole helicoiled is the
retail rate in my area!
Filters sound like Crossland.

Graham.
