I'm happy to report to the list that BFC26375L is again running like a top!
Five years ago, I decided to do a complete renovation. A renovation is
close to a restoration but without the proper paint, etc. Anyway, tore it
down until everything was off except for the body tub on the frame and the
suspension when Uncle Sam decided I'd be of better service to him in Turkey.
Into storage everything went.
I finally decided to finish this project back in Nov of last year. New
floors, paint, seats, carpet, etc. Today I finally got the steering wheel
reinstalled and a new ignition switch wired in. Rolled her out of the
garage. A twist of the key and nothing but cranking sounds. Ok, the
starter works, why not anything else?
Check the carbs. Got fuel at both inlets.
Check the ignition. Timing is off a little but close enough to start.
Points aren't working, so I adjust them.
Twist of the key and she starts! Running really ragged. I turn up the idle
speed so she doesn't die. Lots of black smoke, real rich exhaust smell.
Doesn't look good. Check the carbs again. Rear carb is drawing real
strong. Lift the pin and she stumbles, tries to die. Front carb lift pin
doesn't have an effect. With a screwdriver, I lift the needle assembly. No
change. Found the culprit. It's a stuck float valve. Work it loose, start
her back up. Much better! Adjust the idle down to about 1000RPM. Still
running real good!
The temptation is too strong. I jump in and down the street we go. Roads
are a little slick from the recent snow. The rear tires break loose going
into second and I'm not even on it hard. Engine still pulls strong in
third, when I decide it's time to turn back. Besides, It's 28 degrees out
and I don't have the hood on.
There are still a lot of things to do before I can drive it everyday. But
that first trip down the street was such a blast, I thought I'd share it
with you anyway.
Later-
Chris
