If the unit on the speedo you're referring to is rectangular
with two terminals I believe it is the voltage stabilizer
#35 on the Haynes wiring diagram. I think it should have
several dark green wires on one terminal and two light green wires
from the other terminal to the fuel and temperature gauges.

As for item 17 in the Haynes when I compare it to other wiring
diagrams in my Bentley manual it appears to be the symbol for
the headlight dip switch. This is just a guess but I hope it helps.

If you can I would try and get the correct Bentley manual for your
car as it has much clearer diagrams than the Haynes manual.
