Fred, I also had rust holes in my tank. I removed it,cleaned it up the best
I thought I could at which point I covered the whole bottom with industrial
strength fiberglass. After that, I ordered, from JCWhitney, a three part
sealant which consisted of an etching type chemical, a paint prep type
chemical and last was the sealant which was a urethane material. It appeared
to work quite well except that the paint seemed to settle on the bottom
therefore not coating the whole tank evenly. After about 4 months, the top
of the tank started to peel, plugged up the fuel filter and caused a lot of
headaches. My advice is look for a good used tank. That's what I
did(thanks Larry in AZ)! Good Luck
