Well, here is the verdict as far as polarity goes:

Yes, incredible but true, simply reversing the poles
on the battery solved my problem. I'm not sure why
everyone's predictions of bad grounds and everything
else didn't come true (I'm know there are a couple of
bad grounds somewhere...), but thankfully they didn't.
Now if I could stick to burning the refined stuff and
not the blue cloud producing stuff, I'd be getting
somewhere. Thanks everyone for the recommendations on
my problem.

Also, I was wondering what other sorts of information
people would be interested in seeing on a spitfire
site. A friend and I are going to be putting together
a new version of
http://www.vtr.org/Spitfire/index.html, the vtr
website pages, and wanted your input on what you want
to see there. Tentatively, other than cleaning the
site up and making it load faster, we will be adding a
more comprehensive Spitfire history, direct links to
bunches of Spitfire parts resouces, a model evolution
guide, and ...? Build it and they will come, er, will
visit, er, read the pages. Thanks in advance for the
input. Please email me at zzalet@po-box.mcgill.ca.

Thanks again,
