GRRRR, I'm not liking my spitfire right now. First of all I was
finishing up minor projects before I get the car back on the road and
NONE of them worked properly. Worst of all while I was tightening the
steering column braces back on, a burst of smoke erupted from a wire. I
was quite amazed at the effect. I've burnt up some circuits in a EE lab
once but this was quite dramatic.
Here's the info:
The wire is green/black and comes from the harness along with a lot of
other wires into the back of the ignition switch. It has a nice "blown
out" side to it and that was my means of determining that it was the
culprit. When it happened I had the ignition on so that the wheel could
rotate without locking. Evidentally this wire the brace, my vice
grips, and the solid black wire that comes out of the ignition switch
that is attatched to a small cylinder (looks like a M-80 firecracker)
that has a mounting bracket on it (grounding bracket?) got together in
an unfriendly manner.
My ignition dummy light was still burning after the wire stopped smoking
(I think) but I immediately cut off the ignition and disconnected the
battery as a percaution.
Soooo would someone mine explaining to me what I just did and how I can
repair it. I'm quite distraught right now. I hope I didn't fry my
wiring harness.
