Is it worth mentioning that as a result of long term action of the wiper
blades, the screen surface itself will be covered with microscopic radial
scratches containing all sorts of filth from oil fumes to the pasty remains
of suicidal insects? With application and patience, pure industrial alcohol
(no, you can't drink it in place of a 'cooled one' when you have a rest)
will really get into those cracks and remove the hidden dirt. Amazing how
much can be extracted this way. If there are some or many deep scratches,
the very careful application of jewellers 'rouge' - a sort of cutting
paste, should remove the scratch by grinding it down. It's pretty vicious
stuff, so try it out first on an ordinary piece of glass to see how you go.
