There's a whole segment of society that both makes their living and
supplement other income by 'flipping' stuff found for sale through these
charity resellers,garage sales, craigslist, etc. while some (notably the
Goodwill) are getting better at identifying/shifting the more valuable
items to other sales channels to realize more money from them, most are
happy to do their best on valuation and just receive the constant income
from sales through their outlets.
It used to be amusing to drive by one of the local Goodwills when they
first open in the morning - the parking lot was pretty much always full
of late model cars - some days it looked like a Mercedes or BMW
dealership...
