Is it possible that the rivets have been stored inappropriately , 
allowing them to rust/corrode inside? This could cause the ball on the 
end of the stem to stick and not slide as it usually does to turn the 
rivet inside out. Just for grins, hit the end of the rivet where the pin 
comes out with a small squirt of penetrating oil and give that a try.
