I saw something new in the store recently:  Rust-Oleum

Rust Inhibitor Spray.  This is a clear spray that
smells sort of like mineral spirits ahd seems
to leave a slightly oily film.  It is recommended for
tools, sporting equipment, etc. 

I have sprayed it on a few things, but it is too early
to tell if it actually works better than WD-40, etc.
At least it's not very messy...
