 - ripped the 1x2s into 3/4 square  - glued and screwed one
on to each edge of two of the hopper sides - then just
glued and screwed the other two sides to these using excess
silicone for glue. The corners were near enough to 90deg
not to matter.

This method of thin ply and 3/4 square stringers [is that
the right name?] was something I learned building plywood
tunnel boats years ago. Amazingly strong for the weight. Of
course many WW2 planes were made in a similar fashion too.
In both these cases though you 'fair' the 3/4 square so
that both ply sheets lie flat before gluing.
