I am also convinced. I talked with a wheel designer at Dayton about wire
wheels. He says that the Dayton painted wheels for Britcars are stronger
and stiffer than the Dayton chrome wheels. The spokes on chrome Dayton
wire wheels are stainless so they don't have any embrittlement problems
from chrome. This fellow told me that they can run the spokes much tighter
on the painted wheels since the threads hold much better on the steel wires
than the threads on the stainless wires. If they tried to tighten the
stainless as tight as they do the steel, the threads would strip.

I bought painted wheels. Sue was happy with this, since they are cheaper
and look more original. I'm happy with this, since I like to autocross her
TR4 a bit.
