Will oil really "wick up" a dipstick?

I belong to a flying club. The preflight requires that we check the
oil. So the big discussion is "Do you ...

(a) pull the dipstick out and read it

(b) pull the dipstick out, clean it, put it back in, take it out, and read it

The motor has not been used for several days, so the main issue is
"Does oil wick up the dipstick and give you a false reading?".

And, is the choice of (a) or (b) depend on the shape of the dipstick?

Any thoughts?
