My dad is currently making use of a pulse charger to maintain his
airplane's batteries - these things are amazing, with their ability to
bring sulfated (and thus unchargable) batteries back from the dead, and
for the vastly longer lifespan of batteries connected to them.
Typical lifespan of airplane batteries in normal General Aviation usage is
about 3-4 years - mostly because the batteries sit around much of the
time, and die a premature (sulfated) death. The batteries in N4FA are over
six years old, and are indicating no issues whatsoever.
This is one of those technologies that should become standard as part of
any charging system, except that the rechargable battery manufacturers
won't like it.
