Wayne,

I would just use asphalt cold patch, available at my local home center 
store.  I added an area of paving stones, and the level didn't perfectly 
match the existing asphalt driveway.  I had to add a little asphalt to 
match things up.  I used several bags of asphalt cold patch and a vibrating 
plate compactor.  The compactor was there being used for the paving stones 
anyway.  Worked great.  Skip the torch and just do it on a nice hot 
day.  Sorry to take away the fun part.
