this could be any number of things. Call waiting as someone else suggested,
noise on the phone line causing a disconnection, or the other end going to
la-la land with your side to decide the connection is gone. This last
problem I've had with more than half a dozen differnt providers, all of
whom had USR Total Control modem banks. I've never gotten a decent response
from anyone about this, except from others who've had the same problem.
