The stuff was even better a decade ago . . . my wife could remove the
residue from a blown-up ball-point pen from a cotton shirt. Alas, it's now
been made "safer".

I don't have any magic tricks for oil based or auto-type paints but there is
a product which will take dried latex out of clothes, it's "OOPS!" and it's
sold at builders supply places.
Removes adhesive residue also and won't hurt automotive finishes.
