Hi Forest.

I wouldn't know about the impact to the septic system, but beware of
the oily mess left inside of the washer if you should put in saturated
rags.  If you really need to keep an oil-soaked piece of fabric, I'd
suggest bucket washing it first with a good portion of laundry soap.
This will take alot of the oil out and leave it in the bucket rather
than in the washer.  Personally, I've found this to be more trouble
than it's worth, and I toss the rags after they get to be too oily.
Of course, I'm just a weekend warrior, and the number of rags is
pretty small.
