Thanks to the folks who sent their comments and experiences with various
wooden flooring products, I do appreciate it.  We may just end up with new
carpet, we shall see.  Actually, we host an annual party in late February,
and we will likely rip out the old carpet, see what is underneath, let the
partygoers trash that floor, then install the new one, whatever it is, after
the Beach Party.
