There are unfortunately several different standards for both wire gauge and 
sheet metal.

A table for SWG and BWG can be found at

AWG can be found at 
http://www.alphawire.com/pages/373.htm

There are lots more standards, but I don't have any bookmarks for them handy.  
Machinery's Handbook should have most of them.
