       of course, i may have the term wrong , but here is what a "leaf chain
"  is as i understand it :
       think of the familiar roller chain as you would find on a bike or on
a sprite as the timing chain.  that is NOT it. "duplex"  roller timing
chains are also not it.

      what it is, however, is the sort of chain that was frequently used on
american cars as timing chains (and as the primary drive chain on the
original olds toranodo ).

     these chains have no rollers. they are constructed only of links 
(or leaves) and pins. most likely the chain will be flat on one side and
cogged on the other ,like a timing belt.   the simplest place to
find one in a hurry is on a forklift.

     somehow, they just look more substantial to me than cables do.
