Bill,
I used to pull a 34' Fireball fifth-wheel Camp Trailer a few years ago.
I used a '69 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup with a 454 & TH400 Auto-trans. I
replaced that with a 1 ton mainly to get better brakes. The drums just
weren't quite enough to reliably drag 10,000 to a quick stop. The engine
was way more than adequate--550hp at the ground. A stock 454 is still
good for somewhere in the order of 300hp+. A big-block Chevy, Ford or
even one of those new V-10 Dodges would be nice...:^)
