i've always heard it referred to as pancaking a hood.
you do this by pie cutting thin strips out of or into the hood.
an internet search for both terms resulted in a lot of pictures of finished
hoods.

but it's a 71 chevy truck with a big ass square hood

looks like all you do is: pie cut, lower and then spend the next month
blending... :)
