Hi Zach,

I am 99.99% sure it is a 350 out of a 1974 Chevy Nova. However that
engine was swapped in 1979 or 1980 and that was during my drinking days,
so the .01% is still not an absolute. Hehe

The parts guy at the Chevy dealer said he thought the number should
start with a letter. Is there another way to tell if it is 2 or 4 bolt
main without dropping the pan? I wasn;t sure if the number was 3970010
or 3970070.

Thanks for the help.

                        Tom

the 3970010 is the number to decode. i found that it is used an several
engines. if you are sure its a 350 it was manufactured from 69-80 in 2
or 4 bolt mains, it was also used on 327's in 69 with 2 bolt mains, and
used on the 302 in 69 with 4 bolt mains in z28 camaro's. hope this
helps
