I would guess you have a problem with the Hei.......mainly the module.  
Being a hot day and all......they don't like the heat.  Do you have a 
spare module you could try?  Be sure to put some Di-electric grease 
under the bottom of the module before you bolt it down.  I've also had 
problems in the past with bad pick-up coils in the Hei that would run 
fine but when the vacuum advance rotated the plate the pick-up module 
would give a wrong reading and the car would stumble or die.  Try 
unplugging the vacuum line to the vacuum advance and see if the stumble 
goes away.
