Either Stovebolt Engine Co or Patricks stock GMC bearings and can often ship
them same day. Stovebolt's web site shows GMC mains @ $75.

There were different cranks and rods to support wider rod bearing widths on
older 270s. Be sure to get the right bearings - the older ones may be harder
to find. Pickups didn't get the 270 till 56 or 57, these should all be narrow
journal cranks but no guarantees....

well last week I started out on my first big trip with my '51 GMC (400
miles) I've put about 2500 trouble free miles on so I wasnt worried at
all... so I make it about 50 miles and I got a strange vibration at higher
rpms I shut it down and hauled it home I tore it apart last night and
my suspicions were right, I had one bad rod bearing all else seems fine so
I'm looking at just replacing all the rod & main bearings and the oil pump

so I've got a couple questions

my local parts stores range the price of both sets of bearings from ~$155 to
~$440 how does this compare to patricks and other catalogs? how quick are
they to ship? (my local places say it'll take them a week)

one of the parts books only showed from 56-62 for the 270 while the others
showed '39-62 was the 270 changed or was this a mistake in the book?

were there different 270s for trucks & pickups? (mine's out of a truck)

I havent found an oil pump yet (jim carter does show a rebuild kit for one)
does anyone know where I can get one and for how much?

thanks
      Dustin
