Brian, not sure if pumps interchange between Chev and GMC, but I believe =
the
pumps from later Chevs still fit older ones in 235 size anyway. Most of t=
hem
are only the Metal body ones. Originals were all with glass bowl on them =
on
top. I have bought some that were the same, yet had a small aluminum cove=
r
over area bowl used to go to, so NO bowl. Also have seen the "cheap" look=
ing
flat metal pumps, think only on 235's tho like I said above.=0D
A double action means it has a vacumm pump on top where the bowl normally=
 is
to create vacumm for the wipers 'cause when you step on throttle or go up
hills working engine it loses it's vaccumm an wipers either slow or stop!
With this extra pump, it won't do that. A line runs from pump to wipers
instead of from intake like normal. I have seen fellas put a small tank l=
ike
used on 70's A/C systems in cars to try to hold vac ready and more steady=
=2E
Not sure if it works better or not. These "tanks" look like black cans,
fairly big. Look just like a can from a grocery store. They have mounts a=
nd
nipples for hoses on one end. Mounts to firewall most times. OR, GM had t=
he
little round ball plastic ones too. About size of croquet ball. =0D
 Hope this helps. This is one reason I like pictures in catalogs of vendo=
rs,
at least you can see diff and get idea what they are talking about!=0D

I am looking for a new fuel pump for my 1946 gmc with a 228cid.=0D
=0D
I have been looking through the catalogs, there seems to be a few to choo=
se=0D
from?=0D
I have a few questions, I hope some of you can answer.=0D
=0D
1. Is the fuel pump off the 228 GMC engine the same as the chevy 216?=0D
=0D
2. There are metal top and glass top. What was origninal? What are the=0D
pros and cons to each? which ones last longer, which one is more reliable=
?=0D
=0D
3. Some listed are doubel action?? what does that mean?=0D
=0D
4. Some I found talk about wiper vacuum, how does the fuel pump affect th=
e=0D
vacuum wipers? I have never heard of this, I would like to learn more abo=
ut=0D
it.=0D
=0D
5. who has the best deals on fuel pumps? The local shop in town has one=0D
that fits the 216 engine for $27. If it's the same as the 228, I'll=0D
probably go with that, the catalogs I've seen so far are all in the $50=0D
range.=0D
=0D
thanks all!!=0D
