I had an 1980 Buick Skylark that had no power because two lobes on the cam
(intake valves) were round. I was told the cams were defective because they
weren't hardened properly.

I just figured out the other day that my '54 Chevy's acceleration problems
are caused by cylinders 2 & 3 not doing very much -- disconnecting them
from the distributor makes no change in idle speed. The electrical
system is working fine; the cap, points, plugs, etc., are all in working
order, so I guess this means I need a valve job or something more
expensive. I was wondering if anyone could tell
me:
-what probably needs to be done to get my engine working well again
-what I should look for when finding a shop to get it fixed at
-and how much I should expect to spend
