I'm pretty sure it was one of those deals where the product is guaranteed as
long as you don't abuse it by installing it incorrectly or sending errant
voltage to it in error which would destroy it. In other words, it's not
guaranteed if you break it. Which, to be fair, is standard with any
automotive electrical product. I had mine installed in my 50 Chevy pickup
for about a year and it worked great. Set it and forget it. Ran like a
sewing machine! Problem was when I switched over from a 12 volt generator
system to 12 volt alternator setup. The guys who I paid to do the
changeover didn't get it quite right -- and reinstalled it without the
ballast resister, which you are not supposed to do. I think it shortened
the life of the Pertronix unit. It ran, but not quite right and only for a
few weeks. At least, I think that's what did it. These things are really
sensitive to electrical spikes, etc. If you go to jump start your truck and
hook up the cables backwards for just a second, no problem with the
conventional points setup. No such latitude with the pertronix. See
previous posts for the "no spark" thread. . .
