Between the T-5 5-speed gearbox with it's OD top gear that Grant and
a few others have installed and the 8 bolt Ford wheels and LT radials that
Smokey (and perhaps others) have tried, we 3600 and 3800 jockeys may well
have hit on the "hot setup" for our AD trucks. I don't have my gearing wheel
handy, but if Smokey has increased his comfortable cruise from 45 to 50 mph
with just the wheels and tires, what could we expect from the T-5 with it's
top ratio of .62?
We have heard on this list about problems with steering geometry
caused by the difference in offsets when fitting newer wheels. How do the
Ford rims measure up? How about it Smokey, is your 3600 just as easy to drive
as with the old wheels? Does it track straight and steer as easily as before?
Inquiring minds want to know!
