Frank,

Jim and Mary I'm pretty sure are not coming to this one, but the man DOES like
to drive and so, schedule willing, I'm quite sure would be up for such a jaunt
in future.

Yes, I bought Jim's chrome luggage rack. Still working on a strap and
s-hook attachment mechanism so I don't have to permanently attach it to
the boot lid but don't scratch paint. Stealing parts from a bike rack.
Will Jim be coming? My E won't stand a chance against his.

You do have me thinking about a quick scenic tour up Green Valley Road
just to show the group the neat type of two lane roads we have in rural
Solano County. Almost as good as the Skyline/Woodside/Alpine Road
memories I have from my youth growing up on the Peninsula with my first
car..a TR3. Ah, those were the days my friend...

Ron: the trip from Napa by way of Highway 128 near Berryessa brings you
out at the town of Winters at I-505. Another great destination to
explore some day...check out Berryessa Gap Winery and their Zin plus the
Buckhorn restaurant. Quaint little town.

Frank,

Rats! That sounds terrific - much better than my ad hoc alternate.
Problem is,
I fear you're right about trying to pack too much in. We're actually
going to
be nipping off somewhat early from Woodland (perhaps 2:00 ish) in order
to get
back for dinner (con Margaritas) before the theatre at 8:00. All on a
"school
night," at last for me woif... But I'll be in line for rain checks on
that one
and I've an E-Type owning friend here in San Francisco (Jim and Mary
Christian
- you may know?) who quite conceivably would be as well in addition to
Pete
and Nancy.

If the group would like a scenic diversion, we could take back roads
from Green Valley to Pleasants Valley Road north at Lagoon Valley to
Winters, pick up Highway 505 and then east on Highway 16 to Woodland.
Could be fun...definitely scenic. Rural farmland at the foothills of
the Blue Ridge Berryessa/Vaca Mountains.

Pleasants Valley, Wooden Valley and Green Valley are all favorite drives
of mine. Now is the season for cherries and strawberries. I would be
happy to host a wine and produce tour of the area another time but I
think we are packing in too much to be able to get to Woodland by
8:30ish. We can take a consensus when we meet and determine if some
scenic side trips can be accommodated that would allow for rolling in to
Woodland at 9:00 AM.

Well, the Cordelia Park and Ride is looking to be roughly 11 minutes
from the
Bergman's motel and should thus be doable. Picking up on Ron's idea,
using the
Vallejo address, I MapQuested both a freeway route (52 minutes from
Vallejo)
and a scenic one via Route 121 (which crunched out at 1:40). So that
would be
an extra 45+ minutes and pretty early meeting time but it is a thought.
(to
make Woodland by 8:30 would entail LEAVING at 6:50...) I just discovered
that
you can drag MapQuest direction maps (also Google ones and Yahoo as well
I
think) to go any roads you want (more or less I suppose). This is a
feature
I've been looking for for years! So yes, let's see what percolates up
from the
old List...

Norm and all: It would sure be fun to coordinate the caravan coming in
to the show. Let's continue the cha..cha..chatter to see if we can all
join up at the Green Valley/Cordelia Park and Ride. As an incentive,
there is a small Starbucks in the shopping center (next to a Bank of
America at the south end of the CostCo parking lot) but let's pick up
the java and be sipping while we wait for stragglers from the
hinterlands.

We can certainly cruise at 60ish. The freeway through Fairfield is still
very rough and under some construction. For the trip home, temps are
predicted to be in the 90s on Sunday. Bring extra coolant just in case.

I would now propose meeting at the P&R between 7:00 and 7:30 for a 7:30
launch down the road. That would put us in Woodland around 8:30.

Greg et al.,

Don't know if it would be relevant to anyone else, but I'm taking the
XK140
and meeting up with my friends Pete and Nancy Bergman in their XK120 at
their
motel in Vallejo (The Quality Inn Napa Gateway-Vallejo) at 7:15, thence
perhaps to a Starbucks for fortifications. If this fits anyone's route
we'd be
happy to have more company. We're shooting for maybe an 8:30 arrival.

I see from the chatter there are a couple of groups of folks getting
together to caravan to the Woodland car show; one in Rohnert Park and
another in Cordelia, the two possibly combining at that point.
Are there any folks from Santa Rosa or north who are going to the show
and would like to caravan in a group from here? Thinking of taking the
Elan, but with no OD, my freeway speeds are rather slow (55-65) to keep
from going nuts with engine noise and sucking down the fuel. I know the
overdrive cars and long-legged machines like the Jags are going to want
a bit higher pace, so anyone with a desire to caravan at a 4-speed pace?
Cheers,
Greg Tatarian
