This must be the week for loose bolt stories.
Dave Bondon related his story to me yesterday. Dave is the former owner of
the SLR and now races his Lotus twin-cam 4/4. It is QUICK... however after a
prang at Daytona last year, he has been through auto hell with the car. Seems
that it vibrates almost uncontrollably on hard braking. A lot of good minds
have worked on the problem and he has spent many, many dollars for these
minds... Problem occures only when braking hard- no other time.

Rotated tyres, changed tyres, changed tyres and wheels, changed rotors,
calipers, various alignments, complete chassis alignment by race shop, shock
settings, rebuilt front end, new drums and shoes on the rear, etc, etc.
Testing at various tracks and racing.. The problem would not go away. He was
ready, after a year of fighting this, to get rid of the car. It was possessed.

While lying under it and contemplating (who hasn't done this...) he noticed a
body bolt had been sheared & a couple of nuts were loose. Replaced 'em- just
to do it. Track tested last week- no hopping.
