As the owner of a 1987 Plus 8 I will weigh in by saying that I have
found it necessary to engage in what I consider to be rather extensive
restoration work on this car, given it's recent vintage. Last January,
1998, I found it necessary to remove all four (4) wings and the nose
because the original paint quality was so poor that the paint was
disappearing. Once removed, we found bare metal at every fastening
point and rust was getting a good start in a few spots.

This past June, 1998, while at a car wash in North Dakota (which we
normally do not use unless the need arises while on the road) some soap
very temporarily lodged under the louvers on the bonnet. Before we
really noticed this the soap had "burnt" the paint and left a noticeable
mark. To get that out we had to use some rubbing compound that brought
the paint down to a wafer-thin veneer in that area.

I had never seen anything quite like this before in my life, but it is
pretty clear to me that I now or sometime in the fairly near future need
to remove the bonnet and have that repainted.

If I had it to do over again I would probably purchase a newer Morgan
and pay more up-front. In my view you will pay one way or another and
it will be more than think. If you want to restore an older Morgan, get
your $50,000 bill out!
