3 Wheeler Engine & Gearbox Oil?

Fellow three wheelers

Yesterday I call a couple of oil distributors at random from the phone book.
They acted like I didn't know what what I was talking about.  Maybe I don't
and just think I do or maybe I was just asking for the wrong product.

I asked for 140 Gear oil for the gearbox and SAE 40 for the engine (Matchless
twin).

What specific brand/type should I be asking for?  How will I know if it is
safe for the bronze gear?
