Morgan Plus 8 Transmission problems

Hi 

A question for all you Morgan Gurus out there.

Just experienced a problem with my 81 Plus 8.  Had two occasions a couple of
weeks ago when I was not able to put the car into second gear.  The problem
seems to come and go.  Have been out of the country for a week and haven't
had a chance to drive it again.

Anyway, anticipating the worst, my question is, do I have to remove the
engine to get the transmission out of the car.
