Last year we used Yamaha equipment. It was nice because the rear hubs from
that atv (with no
drums) fit perfectely on the front stub axles (came with drums). Same spline
spec. Then we
machined an adapter ring for the rotor which was attached to the hub by the
wheel studs.
We cut the axles in half and machined a step in each half for a tube to be
pressed on. Before
welding you should mount the axle in a lathe and check the straighness with a
dial indicator. Tap
it with a hammer until it's straight, then tack weld it a few times around the
circumferance (Weld
it off of the Lathe). Check it again and finish welding. In the end the axle
doesn't need to be
perfect due to the low rotation speed. No problem with failures. The tubing
we used was 1" OD x
.190" Wall 4130, which was overkill but it fit well.
