Listers,
Great day yesterday over at Titusville, FL for the Fox Lake British Car
show. 3 cars went over from the west coast leaving Brooksville at 7am.
On the way over, the Mini in our group suffered some breaking up for the
last miles. We all hit pay dirt with wins in our classes, mine was 1st
in 65-67 BGT.
On the way back, after replacing his rotor and plugs(Bosch platinum,
which at a tech session we were told to avoid at all costs as they are
made for fuel injection modern cars which don't like rich running at all.)
We also got him a 12 regular coil, which again was recommended as the
only thing to get unless you have significantly modified your engine
throughout.
Anyway, the Mini was fine for half the trip(about 125 miles total) and
started breaking up and bucking again. We pulled over and changed the
coils and all was well.
Except for my GT, who's tach(which was converted over to neg. ground)
started indicating 4K was at 50mph! Running much higher rpm than ever
before. Idle jumped to between 1500 and 2000. Water temps were high,
too, about 200-210 degrees at times( I usually run no hotter than 190
down here).
What's the problem? Anyone experience this on their car?
Cheers,
Dave Houser
