Forgive my possible contradiction, but you can't steer with the brakes
locked, since the front wheels won't be turning. That's exactly the
issue the ABS is supposed to address. The problem is that it doesn't do
the job well. I can outbrake any ABS system with my foot. The pulsation
the ABS is supposed to provide is inexact, compared to the braking
action of a trained driver.
I once saw Stirling Moss stop in a straight line with the front wheels
of the Healey he was driving turned hard to one side, but the brakes
locked up, to show this effect.
