I've been saying it for months, but "soon" my red car will be taken in
by the shop, where some rust will go away, the paint will mysteriously
become BRG, and other similarly expensive stuff will happen.
And then I received the most recent British Motoring.
The short of it: I am now seriously considering Chrome bumpers, which
would really only drive my costs up about $700. So, with that in mind,
I have too look at the practical stuff.
Here in Washington, we still need a front license plate. For now, it
remains under-slung in the brackets that were designed for holding the
plate under the bumper. That obviously won't work when I go chrome.
Has anybody here on the list come up with a nice way to keep the front
plate where everything looks like it belongs?
Also, since this is a '75, it sits a little tall. Will the car look
absurd with chrome without dropping it to pre-75 heights? The
before-and-after images in British Motoring is at such an angle as to
make it hard to tell (which I guess is a good sign). I eventually do
plan on acquiring an earlier front suspension to drop the ride height,
but would like to wait until after I pay off the near-term work.
With all this work, I really ought to just sell this car and buy an
actual '68 or so B. Everything would be done then... However, this is
my first and only car; some insanity is allowed, right?
