So I got out in the garage to get the B on the road today.
I should have stayed out.
I started with checking that leak in the front carb. It wasn't there
today. So I shortened the fuel line between the
two carbs and ran it a bit more. No leak anywhere. Strange.
Ok, move on to changing the oil. It seemed high. I'm beginning not to
trust my dip stick. I changed the oil,
changed the filter, and just put 4 quartes in. The filter was a K&N
HP-2004. Which according to the parts store
and Skye's site, is right. It was smaller than the NAPA Gold I was
pulling off though.
Start up the car, and seems fine, look under the hood, and oil is
pouring out. Eek! I shut down and take a look,
it's coming out the oil filter. Pull it off, must be the wrong filter. I
have a Unipart that came with the car. I'll use that.
I put it on, Add a quart back in. I probably put 1 1/2 on the floor.
What a joy that was cleaning up. Make sure to
get it good and tightened down. Start it up. More oil. Expletives deleted.
Pull that filter, and take a look. Don't see anything. Try the old NAPA
one again. It won't even tighten. I appear to have
stripped the threads. This is NOT GOOD.
Ok, Just to say I accomplished something. Let's put the new battery bin
I bought in. Of course, my battery won't fit in it.
Anyone in the Twin Cities need a 1 year old Interstate MT-36, or a late
model bin? I'm not sure which way to go on this.
I did manage to install the new seatbelt, at least I got something.
I'm almost afraid to try the steering wheel...
So, after cleaning up. I check the catalog. $179 for the filter adapter.
Gasp. I guess I'm going used. There are a couple on
ebay. Anyone on the list have one? Looks like some of the used places I
have bookmarked have them for in the $40 range. I
can go that route. I suppose I'll be waiting until Monday. Maybe
Quality Coaches has something.
I haven't taken it out yet. Any gotchas? Is there anything I can do to
save the one that's there?
Paul.
