I think they call it spoofing. I forwarded one that I received to the e-Bay
fruad team, and they reported that it was a spoof, if I gave any credit card
info I should IMMEDIATELY cancel the card, and that if I gave any e-Bay
account info I should change my userid and password immediately as well. (Of
course, I didn't give the info -- I knew it was phony (a) cuz e-Bay would
never ask for this info and (b) when I looked down at the trailer attached to
the e-mail I noticed it came from a non-e-Bay address).
About one month ago, I reeived a similar notice that appeared to come from
PAYPAL. THey asked for credit card as well as bank account info!!! Again,
the PayPal fruad team told me it was a spoof, etc., etc.
Imagine, for every 100 of those that get sent, if only 1 or 2 fall for
it.......
